Course Description:

Arguably the most celebrated playwright in history, Shakespeare’s words continue to enthrall, delight, and baffle actors and audiences in theaters worldwide. This class offers a demystification of Shakespeare and provides actors with the tools to fully realize and embody the power of Shakespear’’s text. By studying Shakespeare’s many rhetorical devices, students will discover how to identify the clues Shakespeare left for actors to help them speak his text most effectively. We will also discuss the historical context of Elizabethan England and the societal perspective from which the plays were written, the role of Shakespeare throughout history, and the relevance of Shakespeare in the 21st Century.
