A Word from the Director: 

Dear Actor:

 

Thanks for your interest in the Drama Studio!

 

We hope that you will join us for class this fall.  We offer a unique conservatory-style acting training program in the Greater Springfield area. 

 

What does conservatory-style mean?   It means that we offer a coordinated program that includes classroom training and performance opportunities. 

 

Our acting classes are small in size (a maximum of 15 students) and are taught by a professional faculty.  After taking an Introduction to Acting Course for two semesters, a student may choose from a wide variety of intermediate and advanced courses that increase in difficulty and range as the student matures and develops his/her acting technique. 

 

Our acting opportunities are varied.  In addition to our class sharings on the final class of each semester and our annual Cabaret that features work developed in the classroom, we offer two full-length productions each year plus our annual Winter Shorts festival of student-written one act plays.  All of our plays are about the adolescent experience, so there are many roles for students age 9-18.  All productions are professionally directed and designed.  Audition notices are regularly posted.

 

We encourage all our students to see these productions and learn more about  making theatre come alive on stage.  Classroom study teaches the craft of acting.  Production work uplifts the art of acting.  And here’s a hint about casting that I’ve never put in print before:  Drama Studio students who regularly attend productions and auditions are more likely to be cast in productions than non-attenders!

 

To encourage attendance at productions, the Studio is providing each student next year with a Drama Studio Pass. This will entitle them to a free ticket to any production of their choice!
