Stories on Stage
Come join us for SOS as we create an entire production of Story Theatre and Story Improv for pre-school and kindergarten audiences to attend by the end of the week! We’ll perform stories, poems, alphabet games and even improv the young audience's stories for them. You will gain character, voice and performance skills as you bring favorite stories to life, and turn the “page into stage.” We will also perform our Story Theatre Production piece for your family and friends on Friday afternoon.
Note to Actors: please also bring in favorite children’s books, fables, poetry, etc that you think might work onstage.
Note to Families: we would welcome volunteers to help with our pre-school audiences. If you are able to “greet and seat” or help with the workshop, please let us know. These performances are part of Drama Studio’s outreach program to children at risk in Springfield, and are a great way to have our actors be significant role models.

TeenScene – 9 Plays in 9 Days
In this year's TeenScene we will create a full theatre festival of original plays all in nine day span! Students can sign up as a writer or actor or both. Over the first weekend the playwrights will write scripts for various cast sizes (all nine pages or less). Each play will be assigned a faculty director and we will rehearse the plays Monday-Friday and present them all together over the final weekend. This will be an exciting whirlwind program unlike anything you've done before!
July 13-21, 2019
Faculty: Dan Morbyrne, Amelia Hays-Rivest, Steve Folmar, Rachel Hall
Here’s your chance to be part of the Drama Studio’s production intensive where we’ll stage a complete full-length melodrama with dastardly villains and good-hearted heroes and heroines. Past productions have included daring train-track rescues, fierce battles, charming orphans, and saving the day in the nick of time! Audiences will cheer the heroes and boo the villains as you present this year’s melodrama, complete with full costumes, scenery, make-up and even stage combat. You’ll strengthen your acting, improvisation and character-building skills and gain production experience in Summer Scene.
This camp also includes opportunities for actors to write and stage their own original scenes, monologues and dances. Performances will take place on the final Thursday evening and Friday day.
July 29- August 9, 2019 (9am-3pm)
